Listowel's Nichol Captures OUA Hockey Crown

Mac Nichol and his Guelph Gryphons hockey team captured the OUA men's title Saturday with a 4-0 victory over  the UQTR Patriotes (L'Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières) for the Queen's Cup, their first since 1997.

The Listowel native has been an anchor on the Guelph blue line all season while also chipping in on the offensive side. In the game played in front of a sold out crowd, Nichol tallied one assist in a winning effort.

Guelph started the game by scoring just 56 seconds into the contest. They would double their lead in the second period before adding two final tallies in the third.

Both the Gryphons and the UQTR now set their sights on Halifax for the CIS Championships beginning March 12th.
