Exeter's Season Ends In Schmalz Cup Quarterfinal

On the heels of their SOJHL championship, the Exeter Hawks season closed out Tuesday with a 3-2 loss to Essex. The 73's win the C Schmalz Cup quarterfinal series 4-0.

After a scoreless first period, the Hawks took an early lead on a goal from Chase Thornton. A few minutes later Essex would answer to even things up heading into the final period.

Essex would score two more goals in the third to take a lead late into the game. With their season on the line Exeter clawed back on a goal by Liam Melady to get within one late in the game. That was all the Hawks could manage as Essex takes the game and the sweep to move on to the provincial semi-finals.

Hawks goalie James Morreau stopped 34 shots in the win. Over the 4 games, Morreau made 131 saves over the four games.

The result spells the end to the junior of careers  Trevor Thornton and Chris Pfaff's junior careers. Thronton served as captain and finishes a five year stint in Exeter, scoring 142 points over his career. Pfaff is an Exeter native, playing 3 seasons for his local team and scoring 42 points in total.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
