Larisa Yurkiw Named Pan-Am Torch Bearer For Owen Sound

Owen Sound Skier Larisa Yurkiw will be the torchbearer for Owen Sound in the lead up to this summer's Pan Am games in Toronto.

“Owen Sounders think of Larisa Yurkiw as our champion and we are honoured she has agreed to be Owen Sound’s community torchbearer,” said Mayor Ian Boddy in a media release. “We know she will carry the Pan Am flame with pride. The City of Owen Sound is excited to be a part of this historic journey and we look forward to showing our community to the world.”

An alpine skier on the World Cup circuit, Yurkiw saw her first podium appearance back in January at  Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy.
