Milverton's Steckly Back With Canadian Tire

Milverton's Scott Steckly will once again sport a Canadian Tire logo when he hits the track this season.

Racing in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, Steckly was heading into the season not sure if he would have a title sponsor after the company announced this was the last season sponsoring the series.

The new deal with Canadian Tire allows him to run in every race.

"We'll be racing for the championship." Steckly said. "Seven years is a long time to have one title sponsor so it is great to have them back."

A 3 time series champion, Steckly had planned to race without a title sponsor before the deal. It is a costly venture to run a racecar and the support from his sponsors help keep him competitive.

"We were going to go into the first race and try for the win and try to keep going." He said, hoping that the winning purse could keep him going. "But now we can go every race and aim for the championship."

Steckly added that he still had a lot of support from other sponsors, including those close to home. Milverton is still his home in the off-season and he is proud of his small town roots.

"A lot of people don't know where Milverton is." Steckly said. "It's neat to be from here and everyone in town seems to support me."

Like many stock car racers in the province, it was the local tracks that got Steckly on the scene. He started in 1992 at local tracks Varney (now Full Throttle) Speedway and Sauble Speedway before moving up the ranks, eventually to his current series.

The deal with Canadian Tire is for one year, Steckly hopes to be racing for much longer than that.

"Hopefully I can win a few races and we can keep this going."

The 2015 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season begins May 17th with the opening race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
