9th Annual Doogie Cup In Walkerton

Over 600 girls rugby players will be in Walkerton Tuesday for the 9th annual Doogie Cup.

The yearly rugby tournament brings out area teams and others together for a friendly pre-season Rugby tournament.

Sacred Heart Coach Bill King says it gets better every year.

"Now over 600 girls coming and from all over the area and beyond," He said. "And if not for the strike (in Durham Region) even a team from Oshawa."

King says the majority of the teams still remain local with schools from throughout Midwestern Ontario taking part.

Games will be played at Sacred Heart, Walkerton District Secondary school and Mother Theresa from 9-3.

The tournament is held every year in honor of Allison Dugas, a former Sacred Heart student and rugby player, who lost her life in a car accident.

King says remembering Allison remains a big part of the day.

"Every player will get a 'Doogie Cup' shirt, with Allison's number 9 on the side."
