Bannister to Join the Greyhounds

Owen Sound Attack assistant coach Drew Bannister is leaving the team to become head coach of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Bannister has been assistant coach with the Attack for the past three years. He was also an assistant coach of the Ontario Under 17 team in 2014 and won a Canadian Winter Games Gold Medal with the Under 16 team earlier this year.

Bannister is a familiar face in the Soo. He spent four seasons as a player where he won two consecutive OHL Championships and appeared in three Memorial Cups, winning the National Championship in 1993.

Bannister also won a World Junior gold medal in 1994 with Team Canada.

“It’s a bittersweet day for our organization,” Attack General Manager Dale DeGray is quoted as saying in a release. “We valued Drew as a member of our staff and what he was able to bring to our organization will be missed, but we are also happy for him and his family for their next chapter. We wish Drew, his wife Katie and their children nothing but the best moving forward.”

The Greyhounds have only one game at the Lumley Bayshore this season. They are scheduled to play the Attack on Saturday, October 3rd.
