Goderich Fastball Coach Aims to Inspire More Girls to Play

The coach of the only girls fastball team in Goderich is hoping to grow the system in the next few years.
Dan Ridsdale coached an under-12 squirt team but due to interest the players ranged in age from nine to one over-age 13-year-old.
Ridsdale explains what typically happens is girls end up playing on boys teams and eventually losing interest and dropping out.
His teams moves up to an under-14 team next year but he'd like to see two more teams added to Goderich Minor Ball so that girls teams could start younger and feed the older teams.
Ridsdale says they're hosting a Celebrate Girls Softball Day on Sunday, September 20th from ten till 11:45 at the Ag. Park in Goderich.

Ridsdale believes there are enough girls in the area surrounding Goderich that are interested in playing on a girls team and he wants them to know there is a team that wants them.

Ridsdale says the event will girls a chance to practice some of the basics like throwing, catching, hitting and base-running and try to encourage them to play on a girls team.
