Patriots Suffer Power Play Outage

Special teams was the difference in an 8-1 Alliston win over Mount Forest in Game 3 of the PJHL Schmalz Cup Quarter-Finals.

The Patriots were 0-for-7 on the power play while Alliston scored four goals on five power play opportunities.

Mount Forest was able to open up the scoring in the first period at the 12:17 mark when Blair Butchart took a pass from Spencer Holt and broke in alone and stuffed it underneath the pads of Alliston goalie Matthew Nixon.

But that would be it offensively for Mount Forest despite surges in the Alliston zone for the rest of the night.

Alliston bounced back later in the first period on back-to-back power play goals off the stick of MacKenzie Flewelling, just 2:18 apart near the end of the first period. The second goal came when Flewelling skated out from behind the net and stretched Patriots' goalie Mathieu Oullette to the far post and tucked the puck just out of reach of the goaltender's skate.

Alliston scored two more in the second then added four more in the third period, two of them on the power play.

Alliston has a 3-0 series lead with Game 4 in Mount Forest Tuesday night. The game will be on CKNX as part of Cherrey Buslines OHA Hockey.
