Ironmen OT win to open series

After the Ironmen and Bulldogs both closed out their quarter-final series, it did not take long to establish the next story line.

Wingham wrapped up their series against Goderich Friday night and Kincardine put away Mitchell Saturday.

That set the stage for Game 1 of a PJHL Pollock Division semi-final Sunday in Wingham.

Special teams played a big part as Wingham went 3-for-7 and the Bulldogs 2-for-5.

The Bulldogs built a two goal lead early in the third but a Wingham power play goal pulled them to within one. Then just over the midway point, a puck shot towards the Kincardine net was deflected and landed right on the stick of Jamie Huber and he put it in to tie the game.

In overtime, both teams had chances early. But it was Rhys Vollmer who was able to beat the Kincardine defense wide on the right wing and slide it to Shane Vollmer who snapped it in at the 7:20 mark of OT.

Carter Collinson, Rhys Vollmer and Tyson Koopman also scored for Wingham.

Devon Carson made 20 saves in the Wingham net.

Keegan Angel, Brent West and Jordan Caskenette (2) scored for Kincardine.

Craig Luinstra made 17 saves.

The other semi-final featuring Mount Forest and Walkerton has yet to begin.

PW Fall Fair celebrates 180 years

Gates for the three-day fair will open at the Wyoming Fair Grounds on Main Street on Friday, September 18, at 5 p.m., with opening ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m.
