Local track and field athletes shine at championships

27 members of the Saugeen Track and Field Club travelled to the University of Windsor on August 2-4 to compete for the Athletics Ontario U14/U16/U18 Track and Field Championships.

The Championships involve the top track and field athletes from over 100 clubs across the province.

STFC returned home with the Midget (U16) Overall Championship and were second in the Youth (U18) division.

Saugeen athletes combined for 24 medals; 10 gold, 11 silver and 3 bronze.

30 personal best performances and 8 STFC Age Class Records were also recorded over the weekend competition.

Michelle Van Stuyvenberg set an AO Meet Record and an Athletics Ontario U15 record in the Midget Girls 3k Hammer with a 48.85m launch.

Jeremy Elliott, Ryan Jacklin, Harley Martin, Billie Martin, Ben Brewer, Emily Bryce and Chloe Kaufman were all multiple medalists.

Elliott led the way with 4 medals; 1 gold and 3 silver.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
