Power play powers Listowel

The Listowel Cyclones 4-2 win over Elmira keeps Listowel ahead of the pack in the GOJHL Midwest.

After going 0-for-6 on the power play in a 2-0 win over Waterloo on Friday night, special teams ended up being the difference Sunday.

Cyclones' forward Tyler Hotson opened the scoring with an even strength goal at 4:43 in the first period. That was it for five-on-five offence as the rest of the game was decided by the power play.

Jeremy Goodwin tied the game at the 8:11 mark but Listowel regained the lead at 15:04 courtesy of Trent Verbeek. Listowel took the lead in the second period and extended it with a pair of power play goals off the sticks of Jonah White and Tyler Hotson. Elmira's Jacob Black would score the final goal of the game in the third period.

Listowel was 3-for-8 on the power play while Elmira was 2-for-5.

Goalie Dixon Grimes picked up his sixth win of the season stopping 28 shots.

The win keeps Listowel atop the Midwest standings at 6-1-0-1 with 13 points, just one ahead of Stratford.

Listowel will be in Stratford on Friday night then travel to Waterloo on Sunday afternoon.

Elmira will head to Brantford Thursday then host Brampton on Sunday.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
