Warriors, Patriots post wins in junior hockey playoffs

The Stratford Warriors' aggressive style of play didn't leave Listowel skaters a lot of time or space in Game 3 of the GOJHL Midwest Quarter-Final.

It took some time before Stratford's offense started to gel. But the Warriors scored twice in the first period and twice in the second, to take a commanding lead before finishing with a 6-1 win.

The Warriors scored three goals on the power play in the game ending up 3-for-9 overall. Listowel was 1-for 4 and was flagged for five straight penalties in the second period.

Game 4 is Wednesday in Listowel at 7:30 p.m. with Stratford leading the series 3-1.

The Mount Forest Patriots came up big with a win on the road, 4-3 over Mitchell to knot their quarter-final series up at three.

While the power play still struggled, 0-for-8, the Patriots got a big goal from their captain Michael Steffanelli with under  a minute to play in the third period to tie the game at two. Then just 1:15 into the third period, Nathan Bolger scored to put Mount Forest ahead in the game and Ryley Cribbin added the insurance marker.

Mitchell would get one back but could not find the equalizer to force overtime.

Game 7 is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. start in Mount Forest on Wednesday, March 4.
