Conners under par after first round at BMW Championship

Listowel's Corey Conners shot a 2-under-70 in the first round of the BMW Championship in Maryland.

The tournament is being played at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills.

The shot of the day for Conners was a birdie on the par-3 17th. His tee off landed in a bunker and from their, he chipped out and once landing on the green, the ball rolled into the hole for the birdie. That put him at 2-under.

Fellow Canadian Mackenzie Hughes is at 3-under thanks to three straight birdies on 11, 12 and 13. Hughes actually had four birdies on the day but gave one shot back with a bogey on the third hole.

The leaders after the first round are American Sam Burns, Spain's Jon Rahm and England's Rory McIlroy.

The BMW Championship features the top 70 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings. Conners entered the tournament at number 20.

He is scheduled to tee off at 1:02 p.m. Friday for his second round.
