Mitchell strikes first in playoff series

The Mitchell Hawks struck first in the Pollock Division Semi-Finals with a 3-1 win over Mount Forest.

The teams exchange goals just 39 seconds apart late in the first period.

Braeden Burdett scored for Mitchell at the 18:27 mark. But Mount Forest forward Benjamin Demoe tied it at 19:06.

The Hawks took the lead in the second thanks to Sean Chisholm then added an insurance marker in the third period. Seth Huygen scored that goal midway through the last period.

Tyler Parr made 38 saves for his fourth win in the playoffs. Michael Brassor made 28 saves in the Mount Forest net.

Game 2 of the series goes Saturday in Mount Forest at 8 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
