Barons strike first in game and in series

The Hanover Barons have struck first in the PJHL Pollock Division Final.

Hanover beat Mitchell 2-0 in Game 1 Sunday night in a tight defensive contest.

Ryan Colquhoun's goal at 7:08 of the first period held up as the winner and Riley McCabe stopped 40 shots for the shut out. Trent Verbeek scored on an empty net with just 10 seconds left in the third period.

Both teams had two power play chances but couldn't score.

Mitchell goalie Tyler Parr made 30 saves.

Game 2 goes Thursday at 8 p.m. in Mitchell.

In the Yeck Division semi-finals, Thamesford beat Exeter 2-1 to win Game 7. The Trojans will face North Middlesex in the finals.

Stayner beat Alliston 3-2 in double overtime to win the Carruthers Division semi-final in seven games. The Siskins had fallen behind 3-0 in the series before coming all of the way back.

Stayner will face Schomberg in the final.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
