OEHL announces first ever commissioner

The Ontario Elite Hockey League has announced their first commissioner.

The new senior league's board has announced that Rick Richardson will serve as the new commissioner. Richardson recently retired after over 40 years with Mapleton Fire Rescue, serving the past 20 years as Fire Chief.

In hockey, Richardson has served in the past as director and chair of the Ontario Hockey Association and a past director of the Ontario Hockey Federation, as well as the current commissioner of Allan Cup Hockey, the OHA’s Sr. “AAA” league.

Mr. Richardson’s role within the OEHL will be "to ensure adherence to the OEHL Manual of Operations, as well as oversee expansion, disciplinary action and dispute resolution," according to the league release.

“Rick’s experience, professionalism and integrity really drew him to us as the right fit as our first commissioner,” said OEHL Chair Gord Lamont. “He understands and has a true appreciation for senior hockey.”

“I’m excited for the opportunity to join the OEHL during its inaugural season,” shared Richardson. “My long-term goal is to ensure the OEHL thrives and continues to grow across Ontario.”
