Ice storm puts PJHL North Final in limbo

The Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) North Conference Final between the Hanover Barons and Orillia Terriers has been thrown into uncertainty as Orillia remains in a state of emergency following a severe ice storm.

Declared on March 30, 2025, the emergency caused widespread power outages, hazardous road conditions, and infrastructure damage. Orillia officials have urged residents to stay off the roads while cleanup continues. Hydro One estimates power restoration could take until April 2, complicating preparations for the series.

The storm has forced Orillia Transit to suspend service, while road closures due to downed trees and power lines have made travel difficult. The Terriers, originally set to host at least two games, are facing arena power issues and logistical concerns, leaving scheduling uncertain.

For the Barons, traveling into the storm-affected region presents additional challenges. With conditions still dangerous in Orillia and surrounding municipalities, team travel and accommodations could be impacted.

The PJHL is expected to announce possible schedule adjustments in the coming days.
