Sting win a wild one over Firebirds

The Sarnia Sting trailed the visiting Flint Firebirds 5-3 after the opening period then scored five unanswered goals the rest of the way for an 8-5 victory Friday.

The Firebirds struck first with goals from Ty Dellandrea and Kyle Harris 1:15 into the period.

At 2:15 Curtis Egert (3) scored for Sarnia followed 21 seconds later by Theo Hill's (3) goal to tie the game.

Less than a minute later Dellandrea scored for Flint but the Sting tied the game again on Brayden Guy's eighth of the season.

But Eric Uba scored twice for the Firebirds giving Flint a 5-3 lead after 20 minutes.

The Sting scored four times in the second on goals from Ryan McGregor (9), Calvin Martin (7), Hugo Leufvenious (19) and Jacob Perreault (10).

Adam Ruzicha (8) added an emty-netter to round out the scoring.

Martin said it was a wild first period. "That was quite a period. I think there were seven goals in the first six minutes so we just kept plugging away. it was a high scoring game so we just had to outscore them."

Sarnia outshot the visitors 46-28.

Sting starter Aiden Hughes was pulled after giving up three goals on his first three shots, and replaced by Ethan Langevin who was beat on his first shot.

Martin says they were undisciplined in the first period.

"I think we got away with it in the first with selfish play but in the second and third, playing as a team, it showed."

Sarnia visits London Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

The Knights are on a 15-0-1 winning streak.

The pregame show starts at 1:35 p.m. on 103.9 FM - 1070 AM CHOK.
