Catholic teachers to strike province-wide next week

Another teachers' union has a province-wide strike planned for next week.

Ontario's 45,000 Catholic teachers plan to stage a second one-day walkout Tuesday, February 4.

Unless an agreement is reached before then, teachers at elementary and secondary Catholic schools across the province will not be reporting to work that day.

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) started administrative job action on January 13 and fully withdrew services on January 21, to protest stalled contract talks with the province.

OECTA represents 790 permanent and occasional teachers with the St. Clair Catholic District School Board.

Public elementary teachers, members of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO), warned they will escalate job action next week if a deal is not reached by Friday.

The Lambton Kent District School Board will be shut down this Thursday, January 30 and next Tuesday, February 4 by rotating strikes, and again Thursday, February 6 when a full province-wide strike is planned by ETFO's 83,000 members.
