One person hospitalized following housing unit fire

One person has been taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a one-floor row housing unit in Sarnia.

The Sarnia fire department responded to the blaze on Kathleen Avenue near East Street South on Monday at around 3:40 p.m. to find smoke and flames coming from a single unit.  The unit was heavily damaged in the fire.

One of the occupants was treated by Lambton EMS and taken to a local hospital for further treatment. The extent of the person's injuries is unknown.

The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office has been contacted and will be assisting Sarnia fire officials with an investigation to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

No further information has been released at this time.
