The union representing Waste Management of Canada workers at Watford's Twin Creeks Landfill and the Petrolia Transfer Station says significant wage gains have been made in a new collective agreement.
The employees, represented by Manufacturing, Transportation, and Allied Workers Union, CLAC Local 519, ratified a deal that includes increases of between 15.5 per cent and 16.5 per cent over three years, depending on classification.
Workers receive an immediate three per cent wage increase retroactive to June 1, 2019, another 3.5 per cent in 2020, and 3.5 per cent in 2021.
The new contract also includes a $1,000 signing bonus and increases to boot and tool allowances and lead-hand premiums.
CLAC representative Ryan Griffioen is pleased a new deal has been reached.
“Bargaining for the new contract was a long process," he said. "But in the end, the members are happy with the result. This agreement provides them with excellent monetary increases in the face of uncertainty."
The contract covers 18 Waste Management employees, including heavy and light equipment operators, mechanics, and general labourers.
