Flood watch in effect for Lake Huron

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) issued a flood watch for areas along Lake Huron Wednesday evening.

High winds coming across southern Lake Huron are expected to start late Wednesday evening and will persist into early Friday.

Environment Canada is forecasting wind gusts between 50-60 kilometres per hour and waves reaching up to two metres. Residents along the Lake Huron shoreline can anticipate water levels to rise due to storm surge. There's also a potential for minor flooding in natural floodplain areas.

Shoreline erosion is also possible, particularly in the Old Lakeshore Road area of Brights Grove.

"Residents are reminded to avoid shorelines, watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water," the SCRCA said in a statement.

The conservation authority said it will continue to monitor conditions and will issue additional advisories should flood issues arise.
