Hydro One crews are hoping to have power fully restored to nearly 630 customers across Lambton county by 2 p.m. Thursday.
Outages were reported in Wyoming, Camlachie, Warwick, Forest, Kettle Point and Port Franks following Wednesday's gusty winds and rain.
Environment Canada recorded wind gusts of 93 kilometres an hour at around 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the height of the outages. The weather agency issued a wind warning just after 7 p.m. -- it ended at around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. The adverse weather also prompted a flood warning for Sarnia-Lambton.
Bluewater Power crews were also busy dealing with outages overnight, with over 10,000 customers in the dark at one point. The utility had power fully restored at around 4 a.m.
Sarnia police said they received numerous calls of large tree branches being blown onto roadways and downed hydro lines.
"We are asking the public to please refrain from calling 911 unless there is some form of immediate danger," police said in an online post. "Please be patient as the storm persists. Efforts are being made to restore power and get things back to normal."
Police were advising residents to stay indoors if possible until the worst of the weather system passes.
A cold front and a low-pressure system moving in from the midwestern United States was the cause of the widespread wind and rain throughout the region.
The heaviest rainfall was anticipated for Wednesday evening, with total amounts between 100-125 millimetres expected by Thursday morning.
