Health Coalition hosting virtual emergency summit

The Sarnia-Lambton Ontario Health Coalition is hosting an emergency summit Thursday.

Chair Shirley Roebuck says the goal of the virtual event is to protect and improve vital health care services in the province.

"We're going to be talking to the public, we're going to be spreading the word and we want to make this an election issue," said Roebuck.

Roebuck said they're concerned about possible budget cuts and the impact on hospitals and long-term care homes.

"Doug Ford and his government have done nothing to increase funding for hospitals, long-term care or home care," she said. "They're in the middle of granting 18,000 new long-term care beds to for-profit long-term care companies."

The summit for Sarnia-Lambton, Walpole Island and Chatham-Kent is scheduled for 7 p.m. Residents are asked to register in advance.

Roebuck said they've also launched a local lawn sign campaign. Details and a link to register for the summit are available on the coalition's Facebook page.
