YMCA fundraising campaign gets a push over the finish line

The first annual "Push the Bus" fundraiser was a big success.

The event at the Jerry McCaw Family Centre in Sarnia raised over $2,000 toward the Fill the Bus campaign.

Eight teams of Sarnia firefighters, paramedics, teachers as well as YMCA staff and members helped push a school bus through the parking lot to wrap up the campaign, which raised a total of $12,363.

General Manager Paul Skuza said that will sponsor 82 kids for a week of camp, more than double 2019's total.

"We subsidize memberships and programs for people if they aren't able to pay full fees due to financial barriers," said Skuza. "So, seeing some success with fundraisers like this, really go a long way for our community."

Skuza said they hope to make "Push the Bus" an annual tradition.
