Bike event in memory of Lori Neville expands

The third annual bike ride in memory of a local woman will be a little different this year as plans have expanded to include more kid-friendly activities.

Ride with Pride will take place at McKay Park in Wyoming on Sunday.

The memorial bike ride was created in memory of Lori Neville, who died on August 22, 2020, after she was struck by a vehicle while riding a bike. She left behind a son and wife, Natalie Neville.

Neville said the first memorial bike ride included about 250 participants but there was significantly less last year.

This year, bouncy castles, face painting, and a safety presentation will take place at the park from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

"This year, we have the OPP coming to do bike safety [training] with the kids and the first 150 children through will receive a bag with bike lights, a water bottle, a mini first aid kit, and a bunch of other small things," she said.

The ride itself will start from McKay Park at 12 p.m.

Neville said she hopes more people come away with a better knowledge of bike safety rules.

"Bike safety was huge for Lori," said Neville.

"I think it's great that there's more awareness out there now. Of course, this isn't the way that we would have wanted it to get out to the public but the last thing that any of us want to see is somebody else have to go through what we've gone through in the last couple of years. It's been hard."

The Wyoming Lions Club and Dips Soft Serve ice cream truck will be at the park for attendees to purchase food. The Wyoming Pool will also be open for free swims from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The bike and road safety event is free to attend.
