Lambton's CAO announces retirement

Lambton County's CAO will be stepping down from the role in the new year.

Chief Administrative Officer Ron Van Horne has announced that after 30 years with the county, he is retiring.

Van Horne first joined the county in 1991 as County Solicitor as part of the local restructuring under the Sarnia-Lambton Act.

“This job has been the best job I could ever imagine having, and I’d like to thank council for trusting me to work with such talented staff and strong, passionate community leaders,” said Van Horne in a news release. “Retirement is not an easy step to take for someone who loves the work. My decision to retire has been made much easier knowing that there are such strong resources available internally to help guide the municipality into the future.”

Lambton County Warden Kevin Marriott in a news release thanked Van Horne for his years of exceptional service.

"His guidance and recommendations on the many challenges and opportunities that arise in the governance of a municipality have been invaluable,” said Marriott. “His expertise, professionalism, leadership, and commitment to both staff and the community will be very missed.” Van Horne's last day is set for February 2023 and he said he plans to spend more time with the family.

Lambton County Deputy CAO and General Manager of Corporate Services Stephane Thiffeault will assume the role of CAO upon Van Horne's retirement.
