A major rehabilitation project at the Bonnie Doon Creek bridge will result in a several months-long road closure and detour.
Starting on Tuesday April 11, Lakeshore Road will be closed in both directions between Aberarder Line and Hillcrest Road in Plympton-Wyoming.
Lambton County Public Works Manager Matt Deline said while it's not a safety concern just yet, the quality of the bridge is deteriorating and a new bridge deck is needed.
"The existing structure was built in the mid-1960s as part of the realignment of Lakeshore Road," said Deline. "Based on bridge inspections, several key components of the structure have deteriorated to the point where a major rehabilitation of the bridge is required."

Deline said McLean Taylor Construction of St. Marys will undertake the project at a cost of $2.1 million dollars.
It's expected to wrap up by late September and, in the meantime, traffic will be detoured to the east using sections of Aberarder Line and Oil Heritage Road.
During that time, emergency vehicles will not have access through the work zone.
Deline said they haven't upgraded the bridge since minor work was done at the site in the late 90s and mid-2000s.
He realizes these types of construction projects can be an inconvenience.
"Completing significant infrastructure projects such as these, though they are inconvenient, they are necessary in maintaining the level of service across the county's road network that is expected by all residents. We appreciate everyone's patience and support as we complete this work."
