'Rocky' the snake continues to grow along Point Edward's waterfront

Over 300 colourful rocks, and counting, have been added to a rock snake along the waterfront in Point Edward.

'Rocky' was just 13 rocks long when local resident Wendy Marsden and her partner Rick started the fun initiative back on June 16. The pair hoped he would grow and erected a small sign to encourage others to add to the display.

Marsden said 'Rocky' has gained a lot of attention and has been growing rapidly along the St. Clair River shoreline.

"We're just thrilled to just have something that people can have fun with, and it's blown us away how much interest there is and that he's still there," she said. "The artwork and the amount of time people have taken to do that is amazing."

Marsden first posted about the snake on 'You Gotta Love Sarnia,' a Facebook group with nearly 26,000 followers. She got the idea from a rock snake named Roscoe in Fate, Texas.

Marsden said social media and word-of-mouth has created quite a buzz, or a hiss, around 'Rocky.'

"Mission accomplished! It was made for people to enjoy and it's just something that is fun, it's cheap and it's just creating memories for people," she said. "It's exactly what we wanted to happen."
