BWB span closed for months

Commuters travelling across the Blue Water Bridge are reminded of rehabilitation work that may cause traffic delays over the next few months.

The U.S. bound span will be closed to traffic from July 5 until approximately October 5.

While work is completed, the Canada-bound span will become bi-directional. The north lane will be used for traffic crossing into the U.S. and the south and middle lanes will be used for traffic travelling into Canada.

Due to reduced lanes, there will not be dedicated lanes for NEXUS, F.A.S.T., or buses. Wide loads will also be restricted to 11 feet (3.35 metres).

The Federal Bridge corporation said the rehabilitation work is not expected to have "significant traffic disruptions" to travellers or to the local community.

Federal Bridge Corporation Chief Operating Officer Warren Askew previously said the project involved cross beam strengthening and a bearing replacement.

The project was estimated to cost about $4 million
