Young photographers selected for upcoming art gallery exhibit

Fourteen young photographers will have their work displayed at an upcoming exhibit at Sarnia's Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery.

The Humans of Lambton exhibit, opening August 4, will feature 26 photographs from 14 teenagers who took part in the County of Lambton's Take Your Shot teen photo contest.

The county said four teens received awards for their photographs -- Rylee Kerr was named the overall winner, Miranda Hurst won the groups category, Isabelle Robert took top spot in the candid/environmental category, and Ava Donald was selected in the creative/fine art category.

The exhibit, which runs until October, will also feature photographs from Alexis Brown, Alyssa Bydeley, Benedict Lumapas, Elliott Besley, Jade Harris, Lina Chanaga, Raveena Duggal, Regan Jacklin, Savana Gorniak, and Sydney Roper.

Art Gallery Curator-Supervisor Sonya Blazek said over a three-month period, the contest received 91 submissions.

“We would like to acknowledge all of the teens who responded to the call for submissions," said Blazek. "And [we] hope to see continued submissions as the annual contest continues in the years to come."

Lambton County Library Public Services Coordinator Vanitia Campbell said the Take Your Shot contest began back in 2019.

"And we continue to be inspired by the young talent in our community,” she said.
