Nearly two dozen charges laid in armed robbery, carjacking

A 43-year-old man is facing over 20 charges in connection to an armed robbery and carjacking in Sarnia's north end on Wednesday.

City police said a male suspect entered the Circle K Convenience Store on Cathcart Boulevard at approximately 3:30 a.m., with a firearm which was later identified as a replica style pellet gun.

He allegedly pointed the weapon and demanded money, cigarettes and lottery tickets.

Police said the suspect fled the scene and later approached a woman who was sitting in her vehicle.

"He pointed the firearm at her, demanding the vehicle and threatened to shoot her if she did not comply," read a media release.

The stolen vehicle was later found unoccupied in the area of Colborne Road, and officers found the suspect hiding nearby.

Sarnia police said items from the robbery, the firearm, and a canister of mace were seized from the suspect.

Robin Michael Huggett of Sarnia was charged with the following:

- Using Firearm in the Commission of Offence

- Pointing a firearm

- Careless use of a firearm x 2

- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose x 2

- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized

- Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order

- Trespass at night

- Theft of a Motor Vehicle

- Robbery with non-restricted firearm x2

- Disguise with intent x2

- Carrying Concealed Weapon x2

- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

- Utter threats cause death

- Fail to comply with an undertaking x2

The accused was remanded into custody with a court date scheduled for January 4, 2024.
