Sarnia woman takes chance on LOTTO MAX, wins $500K

A Sarnia healthcare worker has taken a chance with LOTTO MAX and won half a million dollars.

According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), Susan Starr won a MAXMILLIONS prize of $500,000 on a LOTTO MAX ticket for the January 16 draw.

Starr said she's not a regular lottery player.

"I won $5 on an instant ticket and decided to get a LOTTO MAX with Encore. This is my first big win," she said.

Starr also said she was watching the morning news after the draw when she decided to check her ticket on the OLG app.

"I saw big winner and thought no way. I had to scan it three more times to be sure. I still didn't believe it," said Starr.

After she found out she won she decided to call her family and friends to tell them.

"It's such an unbelievable experience. Even with this cheque in my hands, it feels unreal," she explained.

Starr does not have any plans for her winnings yet and said her mind has been racing with all of the possibilities.

"I love to travel, so perhaps I'll plan a trip with family and friends," she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Metro on London Road in Sarnia.
