The Plympton-Wyoming Museum has announced a new military exhibit will be revealed this week.
To mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day on June 6, the museum's military committee has put together its most extensive and complex exhibit, called "Operation Overlord and the D-Day landings, and the beginning of the end of World War II."
"Being a huge historical event, the committee chose a brief overview of D-Day with a focus on Canada’s role in the Juno Beach landings in Normandy, France on June 6, 1944," the group said in a news release.
"With local connections to the London and Sarnia First Hussars, the museum was given some artifacts from the First Hussars Museum in London. Also, some of their former members, including Lt. Col. Joe Murray, the former commanding officer of First Hussars, will be an occasional guest speaker/tour guide at the Plympton-Wyoming Museum. Col. Murray is a renowned speaker and has led many battlefield tours in France."
The exhibit officially opens at the museum -- located on the lower level of the Camlachie Library -- on Saturday, June 8, at 10 am.
It's hoped soldiers and military equipment from the local First Hussars regiment will be in attendance.
