A Sarnia teen will be heading to Toronto Sunday to compete in Miss Teenage Ontario.

Carly Claxton, a grade 8 student at Queen Elizabeth II Public School is one of 40 girls chosen for the competition.

She said she is looking forward to competing in the pageant.

"I would like to be that role model for teens that think they'll be able to do it and they have that encouragement that they'll be able to do it too to try out," Claxton said.

Claxton grew up as a competitive dancer for Bluewater Dance Academy and played competitive hockey and continues on a boys house league in Sarnia.

To get involved with the competition there was a zoom interview that she participated in.

Claxton explained what she's most looking forward to.

"(I'm) hoping to get the title of Miss Teen Sarnia and going to nationals and being the mentor and leader," Claxton said.

The pageant will be held at the Toronto airport Marriott on Sunday at 7 p.m.

The public can vote for Claxton ahead of the pageant until its start.

It can be done online with a cost of $1 per vote.

The vote is 10 per cent of her overall grade with the rest being graded by the judges.

If she is successful she will move on to Nationals which will also be held in Toronto.
