New and improved Beachfest returns to Grand Bend

The Grand Bend Optimist Club is hosting a new and improved Beachfest this year.

New events have been added to the lineup for Saturday, June 22, including a Battle of the Bands, a kids zone and a beach volleyball tournament.

The winners of the battle of the bands will have the opportunity to play on Canada Day.

There will also be a barbeque which is by donation.

Grand Bend Optimist Club President Paul Rivard expects the beach to be full this year.

"For the attention at Beachfest alone I think we're expecting a minimum of 5,000 people," he said.

Rivard said there has also been an increase in volunteers.

"We have 43 volunteers which is just so great. One of the hard things about planning an event like this is finding people," he said.

Rivard said while admission is free, they will be collecting donations for the club towards supporting area youth.

"Whatever funds we raise at this event will go back into the community," he said.

Beachfest runs from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 22.
