Preparations underway for annual Celebration of Lights display

The transformation of Sarnia's Centennial Park for the annual Celebration of Lights begins this weekend.

Board Chair Dean Holtz said the large displays will be moved to Centennial Park on Saturday, November 2.

"We ask people to meet at Sandrin Services at 9 a.m.," said Holtz. "We need about 20 people and we're asking for about four trucks with trailers that are at least 14 feet in length, because the display parts are longer, too big for a standard truck bed.

Tuesday, November 12 is crane day.

Sterling Crane with the help of about 10 volunteers will put the largest displays into place, including the iconic candle arch over Front Street.

Community Setup Day is in just over two weeks, on November 16.

Volunteers are asked to gather at the park for 9 a.m. that day to help finish assembling displays which will be lit up on Saturday, November 30 for the holiday season.

Sarnia's Celebration of Lights marks 40 years this year.

Holtz said they're also looking for sponsors to help keep the annual holiday tradition going.

"We rely completely on the community," said Holtz. "We are a small volunteer run community organization. We have about 120 different sponsors, we still have a few (displays) that we've posted on Facebook that need to be sponsored, but we are in need of some sponsors for our opening ceremonies. Specifically for our fireworks, the horse and wagon rides and for the trinkets for the kids."
