War Medals Stolen In Daytime Break And Enter

A significant break, enter and theft at a home in the 200 block of Maria St. in central Sarnia.

Police say it occurred sometime between 7:50 and 11am Monday.

Constable Les Jones says a t.v., laptop, and a pink safe weighing several hundred pounds were taken.

Inside the safe was a large sum of cash saved for Christmas, a collection of paper currency, silver coins and bars, an 1871 Dutch coin on a chain, a gold pocket watch and personal documents.

Jones says the safe also contained war medals and diaries belonging to a deceased family member and war memorabilia.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
