Improvements At Sarnia Jail

The president of OPSEU Local 128 is pleased that some of the recommendations of a coroner's jury into the suicides of two inmates at Sarnia Jail has been implemented.

Dave Esser says bed frame corners have been repaired, the cell doors of the medical unit have been modified and a registered nurse with mental health qualifications has been hired.

Esser says a recommendation that video monitoring equipment be installed and be manned 24-7 has yet to be implemented.

An inquest was held in December of last year following the suicides of Daniel Mitchell in April of 2013 and Darcy Rice in December of 2011.
