Sarnia Building Activity Rebounded In 2014

Building activity rebounded in Sarnia in 2014 after slumping numbers in 2012 and 2013.

The city issued 530 permits totalling just over $72-million compared to 483 worth just over $67-million in 2013.

Chief Building Official Alan Shaw says 2014 numbers aren't quite as high as the record setting years of 2009 and 2010 but they show considerable improvement.

There were 129 permits issued for single family homes in 2014, up from 94 in 2013.

Shaw says the city hopes to match or exceed the $72-million mark this year. He says there are a number of projects on the horizon but is unable to get into specifics at this time.
