Silver Stick Gets Underway

Sarnia's annual Atom and Midget Boys Silver Stick finals begin this morning (Friday) and run until Sunday.

Director Mark Colbran says there are 74 teams coming to town from as far away as California, Colorado and Pennsylvania.

Colbran says local teams include the Sarnia Jr. Sting, Petrolia Oilers, Mooretown Flags, and Lambton Jr. Sting Atom As.

Action gets underway at 8am Friday at the RBC Centre, and Sarnia, Pt. Edward, Germain and Clearwater Arenas.

Official opening ceremonies are being held in conjunction with Friday night's Sarnia Sting game. The games are free of charge all weekend.

Tourism Sarnia-Lambton spokesperson Vicky Praill says area businesses will be busy including hotels and restaurants.

Praill says the tournament is expected to bring about $5-million into the community.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
