Original Blue Water Bridge To Undergo Resurfacing

The original Blue Water Bridge, built in 1937, is getting an upgrade.

Beginning in April, the north span will be closed for three months for resurfacing and waterproof undercoating.

Blue Water Bridge Canada COO John Elliott says they're working with the Michigan Department of Transportation on the over $3-million project. Traffic will go in both directions on the south span for the duration.

Elliott says this is the first time the bridge will be resurfaced in 15 years. He says NEXUS and FAST lanes will be closed for the duration of the project but motorists can use the cards at the normal inspection lanes.

Meantime, work to improve the toll collection system continues and should be complete this year
