Push For Stand Alone Nursing Programs

Lambton College has joined others across Ontario calling for the province to allow colleges to offer stand alone nursing programs.

The current Bachelor of Science and Nursing program is two years at Lambton College, then one year at the University of Windsor, then back at Lambton.

President Judy Morris says this is taxing for third year students.

The provincial requirements were changed in 2000 to require new nurses to hold a baccalaureate degree from a university. At the time, colleges were not delivering degrees.

Morris says the college will be focusing on curriculum development and would need to hire additional faculty with PHDs to accommodate the four year program.
