Sarnia Dentist Improves Accessibility For Patients

A veteran Sarnia dentist is leading the way when it comes to improving accessibility for his patients.

Dr. Larry Soden unveiled new equipment at his Colborne Rd. office Wednesday afternoon, that lifts patients right in their wheelchair to have dental work done.

The equipment can lift 1,100 lbs. and is completely mobile.

Dr. Soden says it's the first time the lift has been installed in Canada and the first time its been installed in a private practice in North America.

He says while the lift cost about $50,000, he spent over $200,000 to renovate and make the room dual purpose to see regular patients as well.

Dr. Soden says the response from his patients has been heartwarming, with some breaking out in tears when he's shown off the equipment.

He hopes other dentists see what he's done and are inspired to do the same.

The Sarnia native has had his practice here for 37 years.
