Vipers Edge Legionnaires

The Sarnia Legionnaires lost a tightly contested game to the LaSalle Vipers in GOJHL action Thursday night. The game was back and forth, the Vipers jumped out to a 3-0 lead just over halfway into the first period. Jay Clarke and Hunter Tyczynski scored two quick goals for the Legionnaires to pull within one by the end of the first period.

Nathan Mater and Jordan Fogarty each scored for Sarnia in the second period and the Legionnaires led 4-3 after two periods.

Brandon Layman scored short handed early in the third period on a nice pass from former St. Marys Lincolns defenceman Mitch Read. The Vipers then scored four unanswered goals to pull ahead 7-5. Davis Boyer scored on a Penalty shot with ten seconds left to make it a 7-6 final. Riley Babkirk and Tyler Prong each picked up two assists in the game.

Legionnaires defenceman PJ Vandervaart and Nikko Sablone got into a spirited fight in the second period. The Legionnaires went 0-8 on the powerplay while LaSalle capitalized on one of four chances.

The Legionnaires will play again Saturday, January 31 in Strathroy.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
