Developing A New Sexual Assault Policy

Lambton College is joining 23 other institutions across Ontario to publicize a new, stand alone sexual assault and sexual violence policy and protocol.

Executive Director of Student Services Rob Kardas says the goal is to have it in place by March 31. He says they're consulting with local groups including the student government and sexual assault survivors centre on the initiative.

Kardas says the policy will ensure students are heard on the issue. It will address how the college responds to sexual assault complaints and the investigation process.

Colleges are also seeking provincial changes to better support victims including 24-hour emergency hotline services.
