Imperial Oil Cooling Water Upset

At least one Chemical Valley plant has been impacted by the ice-clogged St. Clair River.

Imperial Oil Spokesman Jon Harding says the Sarnia Refinery experienced higher than normal flaring earlier Thursday morning.

Harding says they had to shut down some units because of cooling water restrictions from ice in the St. Clair River.

Imperial Oil, as do other refineries, treats waste cooling water before releasing it into the river through outlet valves.

Harding says they're investigating the situation and are in the process of restarting some of the units.
