Taxi Fares Going Up

Taxi fares are going up.

City council has approved the rate increase recommended by the Sarnia Police Services Board.

Flag drops, kilometre and wait time charges will now increase 9.6 per cent.

The flag drop rate goes up to $4 and $3.50 for seniors, and the meter rate increases 85 cents to $3 a kilometre.

Cab companies approached the board last year for an increase to offset rising insurance, gas and maintenance costs.

The last increase for rates was in 2008.
