Underwater Turbine Proposed For St. Clair River

Michigan-based Futures Engineering is hoping to make a splash with its latest proposed energy project.

The company has applied to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to construct a hydro kinetic power generator under the Blue Water Bridge.

DEQ Supervisor Andy Hartz says this type of project is relatively new.

The DEQ is still awaiting further information from the company before it makes a decision on the application.

A company named Vortex was recently granted approval for a similar device offshore of Dunn Paper on the St. Clair River.
