Long, Long Weekend For OPP

Snow and extremely cold temperatures made for a very busy Family Day weekend for Lambton OPP. Police worked closely with EMS, Blackburn News and local tow companies, dealing with about 260 calls.

Hwy. 402 was closed several times due to snow and driving winds which caused slick roads and whiteout conditions.

In all, police say there were 160 vehicle related events which included abandoned vehicles and collisions. OPP say for the most part motorists obeyed the road closures but there were indications someone tried to open one of the closed "on-ramp" barriers.

Lambton OPP reminds everyone that winter driving is far from over and challenging driving conditions can come up at any time.
